A native of northern Michigan, McCool has been teaching clients the ways of fly fishing and upland hunting for most of his life. "I've been blessed with a calling that provides an opportunity to share my passion for the natural world."
McCool has been reported in the New York Times, Fly Rod and Reel, Field and Stream, the United Kingdom's Trout Fisherman magazine, The Orvis News, Detroit News, Traverse the Magazine and other mainstream publications.
David W. McCool is certified as a fly casting instructor by the International Federation of Fly Fishers, the industry leader in fly casting education. In 2003, McCool opened and was Director of Instruction for Orvis Michigan, the company's tenth corporate fly fishing school in the nation.
McCool is active in land and cold water resource protection efforts. He has served on Trout Unlimited's First Cast Program and the Grand Traverse Conservation District.
